The Wonders of Nature

Working with nature to explore colour and patterns by collecting natural materials such as flowers, leaves and twigs provides a worthwhile learning activity. These can be found any where in the garden, in the park or in the street and can be used in playtime to promote wonder and curiosity while learning. This activity not only provides learning opportunities, but gets everyone outdoors and in the fresh air and sunshine.

As children explore and collect natural materials, they are learning the names of what they are collecting and building on their vocabulary. They are probably counting how many they are collecting and perhaps talking about colours.

Using flowers and all that they have collected as a painting medium as well as to explore colour, patterns and creativity with natural materials and then creating an art piece provides them with a sense of achievement
