This Weeks Colour is Red!!!

Do you ever wonder why we put so much emphasis in the toddler and preschool years on teaching colours and shapes? I mean, why put so much focus on colours and shapes rather than letters and numbers?

This weeks colour is Red! How children love colour....they seem to be automatically attracted to it. These little dragonflies are loving their red coloured paper and paint!!

The ability to identify colours is considered a marker and milestone in a child's cognitive process and is often part of early screening for development.

Recognising the colours and identifying the colour names is an important part of a child's development. For example, in mathematics, colour recognition is used to categorise, sort, compare and organise. Additionally, as children learn to identify colours and use colour as a language tool to describe things, it develops and strengthens their ability to communicate effectively.
