Stamping

Updated: Mar 1

One of the goals of early childhood education is to encourage children to be more creative.

Creativity brings out the personality of the child. Creativity also enables children to work through emotions and feelings. The completed artwork allows the child to verbalise these feelings. If you ask a child about their artwork, they can tell you exactly what they have painted!

Children enjoy covering their paper with colour. They find thicker objects used for stamping easier to grasp and use. Some young children have not yet developed the pincer grip needed to grasp thinner stamps

Although children are familiar with paint and paintbrushes, they learn to use different motions with stamps than with a paintbrush. They also learn about and play with colours in the process.

As children progress, they learn to practice making full use of the paper as opposed to applying their stamp repeatedly to the same spot as we see in this very early artwork.
