Sensory Rice Play

Did you know how much fun it can be to play with rice, especially rice in beautiful bright colours?

Rice play is great for children who love to touch.... playing with Mummy's hair or rubbing Daddy's scratchy face. Grains of rice gives skin receptors lots and lots of tactile input as a means of satisfying that craving to "touch"

Rice helps to "wake up" the receptors in the skin so that a child can understand touch and feel more accurately in preparation for fine motor skill development

Rice prepares those children who do not like the feel of grass under their feet or the feel of sand in the sandbox. They can "feel' in a very controlled manner and they can use cups and spoons initially so that they can control when and how they touch the rice.

It is great fun!!
