Puzzles are Fun

From childhood to adulthood, we love to play with puzzles. At Dragonfly's Early Learning at Coolum Beach, our Educators recognise that puzzles are a great way to create a fun, learning experience for their charges. While primarily seen as "fun" toys, they actually hold some incredibly educational benefits for young children.

There are many recognised studies that have shown that children who play with puzzles between ages 2 and 4 develop better spatial skills relating to mathematical ability.

Simple jigsaw puzzles help children develop finger strength, perseverance, and problem-solving skills. Picking up, moving, and twisting puzzle pieces into place also enhances hand-eye coordination while developing small muscle control of their fingers.

Puzzles also develop memory skills as well as developing the ability to plan, test ideas, and solve problems. While completing a puzzle, children need to remember shapes, colours, positions, and strategies to complete them as well as to practice the trial and error method of finding a solution.

Our children here are challenging their mathematical abilities using our Centres' beautiful indigenous puzzles.
