The Mothering Instinct

This little girl at Dragonfly's Early Learning at Coolum Beach is having a lovely time taking care of her babies. She appears not to need company or little else for that matter as her role appears to be to take care of these babies.

I am sure that you have all watched as little girls particularly fuss over their dolls, and also some will fuss over their siblings and friends. They are naturally "little mothers." and it appears, at this age, that mothering is their domain.

The maternal instinct is intended to refer to a sense of gravitational pull that a mother

feels towards her child. Studies have shown that the mothering instinct is inborn and can start to appear as early as the second year of life.

The early mothering instinct in young children is manifested in the form of playing with dolls and reaches its peak at the age of 3-5 years. Playing with dolls occurs subconsciously and children are not necessarily taught the habits of caring for a baby. This occurs naturally.....they seem to instinctively know just what to do.
