Mark Making

The children at Dragonfly's Early Learning at Coolum Beach have been exploring mark making in different forms.

Mark-making is the first step into early literacy for these young children and enables them to practice their pre-writing skills. Fine motor development has important implications for children's engagement in fine arts, drawing, and emergent writing skills

Fine motor skills involve all of the small muscles of the body, particularly those that control precise movements of the hands, wrists, feet, toes, lips, and tongue.

The children have been introduced to a variety of tools to explore and develop their skills, like using chalk on chalkboards, markers on whiteboards and colour on easels.

I just love looking at these early drawings. While we look at them in wonder, if you ask them, they can tell you exactly what they have drawn!!
