Jam Roly Poly Pudding

We enjoyed this very old dessert. As you can see, I added apple and made Apple and Raspberry Roly Poly. Just right for this weather.

Jam Roly Poly Pudding:


1 cup SR flour

3 Tabs Butter

Sugar to taste

Little milk

jam of choice - homemade raspberry was our favourite

1 cup stewed apple if using


1 cup boiling water

1/2 cup sugar

1 tab butter


  1. Rub butter into flour and mix in sugar to taste

  2. Mix to a stiff dough with a little milk

  3. Roll out to an oblong about 2 cms thick.( width of tray x 25cms )

  4. Spread with jam leaving a good margin at long edge and roll up

  5. Seal the length with a little water but not the ends.

  6. Place in a greased pie dish seam down

  7. Bring water butter and sugar to the boil

  8. Pour over pastry roll and sprinkle with sugar.

  9. Place in a 180C oven for about 35 minutes or until cooked.

  10. Serve hot with custard or cold with partly whipped thick cream.

Note Can substitute any jam

Can use stewed apples or apricots

Can use currants or sultanas.
