Happy International Day of Happiness to All From Dragonfly's Early Learning

Updated: Mar 25, 2019

The International Day of Happiness is celebrated worldwide every March 20, and was conceptualized and founded by philanthropist, activist, statesman, and prominent United Nations special advisor Jayme Illien to inspire, mobilize, and advance the global happiness movement. Illien came up with the idea of creating an international event in order to emphasise the pursuit of happiness as a "goal for all human beings”

Achieving happiness is no easy feat.

Happiness may mean something quite different to everyone respectively, but the founder of the International Day of Happiness believes it is a "fundamental human right" for all.

Every year, the International Day of Happiness celebrates happiness and the right of all to strive for it.

Every year, International Happiness Day has a special theme and this years theme is "Happier Together"

It's date coincides with the vernal equinox, which marks the beginning of spring. This is no coincidence, as the founder of the celebration specifically chose the date of the spring equinox for that of the global celebration of happiness. He also described the beginning of spring as a "period of renewal and new beginnings, for all", which is why it's apt for the International Day of Happiness to fall on that day.

These proposed 10 steps to global happiness are as follows: 1       Wish everyone a happy International Day of Happiness on 20 March. 2       Do what makes you happy. 3       Pledge to spread more happiness in the world. 4       Celebrate by taking part in a happiness event. 5    Share your happiness with the world by using hashtags such as #tenbillionhappy and #makeithappy on social media. 6       Promote the UN resolutions that made the International Day of Happiness a reality. 7       Participate in the festivities by hosting an event. 8    Advance the global goals for happiness, such as eliminating poverty and supporting gender equality. 9       Add International Day of Happiness badges to your online channels. 10    This year's theme of "Happier Together," urges all global citizens to connect with one another, with family in particular, and others in your community to make life happier where you are.
