Gardening at Dragonfly's Early Learning
At Dragonfly's Early Learning at Coolum Beach, we support the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Programme. This is a programme that encourages educational facilities to introduce gardening to children of all ages. In so doing, the children get to participate not only in growing their own vegetables but harvesting and cooking their produce. Children are introduced to foods which they might not otherwise come across, much less eat. They watch their peers eat and this then teaches them to try new foods...
The children love the outdoors and there is nothing better than digging in the garden and feeling that lovely soft cool earth between fingers and toes.
Last week, the children were up turning the soil and found 5 potatoes growing.
The children were so excited when they found them.
Miss Leanne cut them in half and replanted them.
Through this experience, the children develop a sense of awe and wonder, along with a sense of inquisitiveness and belonging that gives them a sense of inclusion.
