Farm Animal Play Space

The children at Dragonflys Early Learning at Coolum Beach love farm animals. They probably learn about or hear the song "Old Macdonald had a Farm" at a very early age. It may sound like simple toddler fun but learning this vocabulary at a young age actually develops pre-academic and social skills.

Farm animals and their sounds have been a much-loved teaching tool for a very long time.

As early as 1658, John Amos Comenius published what was considered the first children's book which included illustrations of various farm animals with text describing the animal sounds.

Starting on this path early, and simply seeing the animals in books and hearing the sounds that they make, prepares them for preschool and beyond.

The children helped to set up a new Farm Animal play space last week. They have been engaging in small part plays in this space, further developing their social and communication skills as well as sorting and grouping the animals together.

As you can see.....they are really engrossed in it.
