Exploring Sandpit Design and Construction

Last week the children at Dragonfly's Early Learning at Coolum Beach have been exploring design and construction in the sand pit.

A volcano made from sand was their choice.

They discovered during the construction of the volcano that water helped the volcano to stay solid.

Volcano eruption has been on the news in recent days so it was easy for curious thoughts and questions to follow.

Bicarbonate of soda and vinegar were simple on-hand ingredients to add to their volcano to make it erupt. Soon the children were questioning what tipping water down the middle of the volcano would do, so they filled buckets and tipped them into the volcano.

Their volcano collapsed ...... but their maginations were activated and soon they were working together to create a bridge with a river and a dam They poured water through their creation, fixing parts that broke as they went and making improvements to their ongoing construction.

It was a beautiful day to be a part of the "Dragonfly's Construction Team"
