Exploring Letters of the Alphabet

Letter recognition activities refer to the ability to visually recognise letters of the alphabet through hands-on learning.

This is a crucial skill for todders and preschoolers as it serves as the foundation of reading and writing. Children who cannot recognize letters and name them have difficulty learning how to read

This activity promotes the ability to name each letter and to match that name with its written form in both upper and lower case. Children need to not only be able to recognise the letter names, but also the sounds, in order to experience ease in learning how to read.

Alphabet recognition requires frequent exposure to the letters and helps the children learn letter names, shapes and sounds in relation to each other. Letter recognition is important because it enables beginning readers to figure out how printed text is associated with the spoken word.
