Exploring Cutting Skills

At Dragonfly's Early Learning at Coolum Beach, we recognise that we must take time to encourage skill-developing activities.

This week we introduced cutting skills. This activity requires a careful eye as the children are using real scissors and really does take time to develop. Being able to use scissors is important for many preschool and school activities

To perfect this activity, the children need to be taught good sitting balance and have good well-developed hand and wrist muscles to maintain control of the scissors. They need to work towards good hand and eye co-ordination and well-developed hand movements along with the ability to progress from left to right

This activity allows all children to have a feeling of achievement which they love
