The skill of literacy and particularly early writing begins with mark making. It is very easy to dismiss the different lines and circles that children make as mere scribbles but actually, mark making is the first step towards writing
For children, writing is a whole new skill set requiring time, practice and encouragement.
At dragonfly's Early Learning at Coolum Beach, creating a pre writing space was the first step to encouraging working together to create the space to begin learning these skills.
The children then created a post box to incorporate ideas encouraging pre writing skills, These skills included writing addresses on envelopes and writing and sending letters to our parents and friends about kindy.
This also encouraged many ideas and discussions in relation to the the Post Office as a community organisation and the occupations of the people who work in the Post Office.
