Developing Pre-Writing Skills

At Dragonfly's Early Learning at Coolum Beach, we understand that the pre-writing process provides the first steps to developing good communication skills and the need to spend time on this. Writing is the primary basis upon which learning and intellect will be judged as learning proceeds. Writing equips us with communication and thinking skills.

Pre-writing skills are the fundamental skills that children need to develop before they have enough control of their muscles to be able to write. These skills contribute to the child's ability to be able to hold a pencil securely to draw, write, copy, and colour.

The possums at Dragonfly's Early Learning at Coolum Beach are practising and developing their pre-writing skills by strengthening their hands.

They are using their motor movement skills and hand strength to operate the tweezers and pick up and move the pasta from one bowl to another

The children used their hands to hold the tweezers and squeezed them together over the pasta to pick it up

They used their imaginations to pretend that the dry pasta were the ingredients for their cake mixes or pancakes. The depth of their imagination is amazing!
