Hours of Learning Fun

The children at Dragonfly's Early Learning at Coolum Beach, spend many hours playing with blocks, shapes and using shape sorters.

Children become completely engrossed in "working it out" and will spend hours playing with these toys

Playing with blocks help children in many aspects of learning. They learn about colours as most blocks are in bright colours but more especially they learn about gravity and geometry. Building is all about size, shape weight, leverage and balance and over time, children work this out. Building and block play then begins to become more and more complex and, as they stack their blocks, they develop and refine fine motor skills.

Children also love shape sorters. Shape sorters have been around for centuries. The object is for the child to fit the correct pieces into the matching slots on the shape sorter. These provide quite a challenge for them initially. The shape sorter also allows a child to strengthen hand-eye coordination, fine motor and problem-solving skills as well as developing vocabulary as they learn the names of colours and shapes

Learning about colours and shapes at an early age is essential. Everything around us is made up of shapes and colours
