Alphabet Activities: Learning the Letter O

Updated: Aug 13, 2019

Children need to learn the letters of the alphabet throughout the pre-kindy and kindy years to help them with later success in beginning to read. Helping children to learn the alphabet involves more than just letter identification. In order to learn to read later on, children need to come to understand the alphabet as a system and learn how letters function in written language. Learning the letters is just the beginning.

Let’s face it, learning the letters of the alphabet is not always fun for young children. They’d much rather be swinging or playing in the mud than learning to identify those squiggly lines we call letters.

However, all it takes is a little creativity as you can clearly see. You can make it super fun by engaging in alphabet activities your kids will love. And the best part is, your kids will think they’re playing and they won’t even realise they’re learning!

This week, the children at Dragonfly's Early Learning's Kindy Group learnt the letter O for Octopus!!! Here we see an octopus in construction....a work in progress!
