    Fun with Animals

A fluffy bunny, a clucky chicken, even a squishy silkworm. You’d have to be blindfolded to miss the delight in a child’s face when they interact with other living things (that aren’t human of course) but there’s much more to children and animal interactions than meets the eye. When children have opportunities to spend time with animals, it’s about much more than just stimulating their senses. Yes, they love furry cuddles and experiencing the different ways that animals look,

    Dancing for Fun!!!

At Dragonfly's Early Learning at Coolum Beach, the Educators love to spend time dancing with the children. Dancing is always much more pleasurable for the children if they have an adult to dance with them. Through dance, children learn to control and coordinate their bodies and the movement helps them to create spatial awareness. Learning a set dance routine and dancing with an adult, helps improve their listening and understanding skills. From a very early age, children resp

Ho Ho Ho.... Not Long to Go

Christmas is almost upon us. This is a great entertaining recipe suitable for the whole family. Most children love cheese and if you use their favourite ingredients in this recipe, it will be a winner every time. If this looks too large, see the note at the bottom and divide into 3 logs instead of one large ball. You can take one out of the fridge at a time. It keeps for ages well wrapped and refrigerated. Cheese Ball Ingredients 250g bacon, chopped, divided OR 250g sliced a

    Enjoying the Great Outdoors.

Children love the outdoors and at Dragonfly's Early Learning at Coolum Beach, the children have gardens that have been established to help them earn about gardening and where their food comes from. These children are having a discussion about the lemon tree that is currently in flower and bearing baby fruit That is, of course, if this caterpillar that they are eying off doesn't eat everything in sight. Dance like No-one is Watching!

The children from Dragonfly's Early Learning at Coolum Beach had dancing last week. Dancing was a huge hit!! Children begin to make sense of sounds before they leave the womb and their first response to this is through movement of their body. When a child dances, they learn how their body can move. Through dance, children learn to balance, coordinate and control their bodies. This movement also helps them to develop spatial awareness Singing and dancing are also good aerobic

Creating Soft Areas for Nurturing and Co-operating

These soft areas photographed below are set up throughout the Centre at Dragonfly's Early Learning at Coolum Beach to provide a space for cooperating and nurturing to understand how children's personalities are influenced by their genetic makeup and biological factors. These enabling environments encourage young children to play because they feel relaxed, comfortable, and "at home" in them. A nurturing environment is one that gives children the security and opportunity to dis

    Lets be Creative

At dragonfly's early Learning at Coolum Beach, we recognise that creativity fosters mental growth in children by providing opportunities to try out new ideas and new ways of thinking and problem solving along with self-expression and decision making These boys have created a double seat for the park and are allowing all of their friends to have a turn on their magnificently constructed park seat. Creative play such as this develops preschooler confidence, physical and thinkin

    Exploring Numeracy Skills: Making Playdough

These little ones at Dragonfly's Early Learning at Coolum Beach are having fun measuring up the ingredients to make their own playdough. Children start learning numeracy skills from the time that they are born. This learning happens from watching and experiencing numeracy in action during everyday play and activities As children get older, they learn more numeracy and maths skills including size and measurement. Making everyday numeracy activities and experiences playful and

    Lime or Lemon Butter

Thinking about Christmas? This is such an expensive time of year so maybe think about what you can make to ease the financial burden. I always save the nice jars during the year to use at this time of year. Lime or lemon butter in a nice jar with a ribbon is a very special gift. Limes are actually a bit expensive right now so perhaps use lemons. Lemon butter is just as nice. It runs rings around what you buy in the supermarket. Store in the refrigerator till you are ready to

    Spiders at Haloween

Spiders!!! I just need to keep these little suckers in here!! The reason that spiders appear to be such a symbol of Haloween is because of their connection with witches. Spiders, along with rats and black cats were believed to be the evil companions of witches in medieval times. Generally, spiders prefer to dwell in dark places so can be very easily linked to the witches about at Haloween What fun they all had!!! Will it Sink or Will it Float

Science plays a huge part in the education of the children at Dragonfly's Early Learning at Coolum Beach. The possums have enjoyed water play as the weather warms up. A sink or float experiment is a great activity to choose when introducing basic science in early learning. The children used recycled materials to create boats with their educators. They tested their boats in their lake to see if they floated or sank. Using their investigation skills they talked about what might
